Beautiful. I like the sharp lines, the swirls of red that create the phoenix and her hair, her expression is down right devilish, and that hint of black just balances the entire composition.
"Jean is awesome when she's off her meds." Lol. Agreed. I love how you handle traditional media. Hell, I love pretty much everything that you do!
The composition is wonderful; her sweeping hair and billowing sash belt add to the motion of the piece and really gives it life. The raptor bird, which is really well rendered, complements that as well. I always love the subtleties in your artwork that makes it so unique; in this one, it's her hands. The way that her hands are curled up into talons is a lovely touch.
I have one question I'd like to ask you. In another piece that you've done of Dark Phoenix, Jean's eyes are rendered similarly to this one (deep vortexes for pupils with what seems like either eye makeup or veins surrounding them). By any chance, would this be inspired by the visual effects used in X3? A similar technique was used on Famke Janssen. Regardless, I absolutely LOVE how you rendered her eyes and I feel like Dark Phoenix should ALWAYS look like this!
You've got a great eye. You totally validated all my intentions. It feels nice to know you can read my "language".
To answer your question, Yes, very inspired by the X3 visual. It was the best thing in the entire movie. The visual difference between Phoenix & Dark Phoenix should go beyond green & red. Bloody dark vs shinning light works for me.
Another awesome artpiece.
This is really beautiful. And full of emotion.

As always, thanks for sharing
